The Lawrence Hall of Science

Biannual Gala

Location: Lawrence Hall of Science at UC Berkeley
Guest Count: 200

The 2014 UC Berkeley Lawrence Hall of Science Fall Gala was one for the record books. With event partner Brightfire Events, DGSE set out help the Hall raise more funds, bring more excitement, and make more memories than previous galas. Fortunately we had an amazing client and a dynamic space with educational and entertaining hands-on exhibits to work with.

After months of planning, two redesigns, and some last minute hustling, the outcome was fantastic. Delicious molecular gastronomy-inspired catering paired nicely with scientist-designed Nano Cocktails.  A fascinating presentation by Nobel Laureate Randy Schekman started off the program portion, which was followed by infectious music from Jazz Mafia.  A surprise pied piper by none other than the Cal Marching band led guests into the main lobby where a lively auction was hosted by Eye on the Bay's Liam Mayclem. All of this was MC'd by Renel Brooks-Moon, just one day after the World Series win by the San Francisco Giants. Guests were even invited to get cozy with a python or tickle a tarantula. The event culminated with a record $120,000 raised during an auction and raise-the-paddle for educational programs, giving underserved Bay Area school children access to STEM offerings at the Hall.
